It was an evening to remember for Gordon Lightfoot at Massey Hall.

Lightfoot gave the first performance in the renovated hall since it closed in 2018. It was an appropriate bookend for the three years of silence at the iconic venue, as Lightfoot gave the final performance before it closed.

“It’s like an emotional experience to make this commitment,” Lightfoot said. “Every time we’ve done it over the years, I’m really happy to be here.”

If that was not enough for the Orillia natives, who are now calling Toronto home, he was also handed the key to the city by Mayor John Tory.

“He’s made us proud as a Canadian artist,” Tory said. “I am determined to see that we celebrate and honor and recognize our artists by the caliber of Gordon Lightfoot.”

Lightfoot has two more performances at Massey Hall. He is scheduled to perform Friday and Saturday nights.
