Toronto, Yukon, Whitehorse direct flights introduced by Air North

TORONTO – A direct flight route will soon connect Toronto with the Yukon and Northwest Territories, marking a first for Canadian flights when Yukon airline Air North announced on Wednesday that it is adding Toronto Pearson International Airport to its seasonal route network.

Flights will run twice a week between Whitehorse, Yellowknife and Toronto, starting May 10, 2022. These flights can be booked now.

The new additions will mark the first scheduled direct flights connecting Toronto, Yukon and the Northwest Territories, according to a message issued by Air North on Wednesday.

Ottawa was the first city in Ontario to see a direct, planned route connecting it with northern Canada in 2014, when Air North began operating seasonally.

Weekly service will be scheduled as follows:

  • 4N823 departs from Whitehorse Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8 a.m. and arrives in Yellowknife at. 10.45. It departs from Yellowknife at 11.30 and arrives in Toronto at 17.40

  • 4N834 departs from Toronto on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10.45 and arrives in Yellowknife at 13.25. It departs from Yellowknife at 14.10 and arrives at Whitehorse at 15.05

Joe Sparling, Air North’s president and CEO, said in the company’s announcement that it quickly became clear that a connection between central Canada and the north “is essential.”

“Having a direct flight to Canada’s economic center will kickstart opportunities for both territories,” he said.

Craig Bradbook, chief operating officer at the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, called the introduction of the route “a historic milestone.”

“Aviation drives economies and strengthens ties by connecting companies and people, and we look forward to the mutual benefits that this route will bring, both for the Yukon and the Northwest Territories and for Ontario.”
