“It’s been very cool between them for a long time. They’ve been through the wrestler before, but they’re always come out of it,” the source said of the star, who has previously weathered relationship fights in public when he admitted to being unfaithful to her in 2014. (After the affair, the couple documented their lives together on their reality series Real Tori.)

“Tori still has major trust issues. Part of their relationship was never completely repaired after he was unfaithful,” the source added. “They’ve lived separate lives. They still want family meals and occasional outings, but that’s for the kids.”

Earlier this week, the actress posted a photo of her vacation card with her five children, but McDermott was not in the photo.

In the comments section of her post, Spelling said McDermott was missing from the picture because he was “filming his new feature film in Canada” when it was filmed.

McDermott’s absence from the family snapshot comes a few months after Spelling suggested she and her husband – whom she married in 2006 – were experiencing some marital problems.

Last month, the actress chatted with PEOPLE about navigating life with five children and shared that it “requires a village” to balance life as a working mother.

“Many times I find myself trying to do everything myself,” she admitted. “I’m still a work in progress.”

However, the star said she has an “amazing group of friends that I can definitely call and say,” Hey, can you help me? I need support. “And I think that’s always important, too.”

“It’s really hard for me, because I definitely grew up in a family where we had a lot of support around me. I grew up with a full-time nanny, so I was always the girl who was like, ” When I have kids, “I want to do it all myself,” she said. “So I still do it all, but I’m still working on it. It’s okay to ask for help. “
