The club begins “negotiations” with Manchester United to get a star – Warning that they will not “go crazy” for him

After a few weeks of rumors that Barcelona are interested in signing Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani, new reports now say the Catalan team is already taking steps towards the transfer.

The Spanish magazine Fichajes writes that the La Liga giants have ‘started negotiations’ to bring the 34-year-old to Camp Nou.

Barcelona need a new center-forward, and despite their interest in signing Basel’s Arthur Cabral, Cavani is seen as a cheaper option for the position.

The striker’s contract with Manchester United expires at the end of the season and as he has not been much used, it could be a few factors why Barça could afford his signing despite their financial struggles.

Barcelona would be willing to pay Cavani up to € 1m. for the remaining months of the season and include in the contract an option to extend it by an additional year.

However, the transfer is entirely up to Manchester United’s wishes.

Fichajes points out that despite the poor use of the striker, the club may still need him in their Premier League and Champions League campaigns, and their demands may be prohibitive for Barça, who ‘will not go crazy’ for the move.
