The chase for the van across Los Angeles County ends with the suspect in custody

LOS ANGELES – A bizarre hour-long chase for a van across Los Angeles County Thursday night ended with authorities arresting the suspect who tried to flee on foot after dropping the vehicle.

During the chase, the suspect drove onto a sidewalk and also wanted to stop and back up against the LA County Sheriff’s vehicles before fleeing again.

Authorities chased the van around two parking lots while the suspect continued to drive in circles. Towards the end of the chase, the tires of the van were torn to pieces due to barbed strips being exposed.

AIR7 HD was first over the chase around 9:20 p.m., when the suspect drove into a residential neighborhood in Watts with narrow streets. The driver, a suspect for reckless driving, managed to get out of the neighborhood after forcing an oncoming car to reverse and get out of the way.

The driver eventually stopped in Compton and opened the door. After a few minutes, the suspect left the vehicle and was arrested after failing to run from deputies during a foot chase.
