Indonesia Open LIVE- Quarterfinals: Sindhu, Praneeth in focus India’s ace-shuttler PV Sindhu showed off her class when she sealed her place in the semi-finals of the Indonesia Open on Friday. Sindhu sealed another victory from behind to get to the last 4. However, the young Sai Praneeth lost to world No. 2 Victor Axelsen, who had also shown India’s Kidambi Srikanth in equal sets. Meanwhile, the pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy & Chirag Shetty defeated the Malaysian pair Sze Fei Goh & Nur Izzuddin in equal sets to get into the semifinals.

The Indian duo defeated the team of Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin of Malaysia 21-19, 21-19 in a closely contested match at Court 2 in 43 minutes. The Malaysian duo went off quickly as they entered the first mid-match interval with an 11-6 advantage. But Rankireddy-Shetty gathered and got the first game after equalizing on 19-19.

The second game proceeded in the same way as the previous one. Fei and Izzuddin went into the break in the middle of the game with a thin lead of 11-10. The Indians then came back stronger and got a healthy lead of 18-13. But the Malaysian pair showed their extreme calm and equalized the match to 19-19. In the end, Indian shuttlers kept their nerves to play and match by winning two points in a row.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will now clash with Kevin Sukamuljo and Marcus Gideon from Indonesia for a place in the final.

PV Sindhu moved closer to achieving his first BWF title in 2021 when he qualified for the semifinals with a victory from behind over Korea’s Yu Yin Sim. The two-time Olympic medalist Native American regrouped to defeat South Korea’s Sim Yujin 14-21, 21-19, 21-14 in a titanic 1-hour, 6-minute match. The 22-year-old Korean quickly started out of the blocks as she won the first match against the reigning world champion 21-14 in 17 minutes.

Sindhu then showed her enormous composure as she fought back and won the second match 21-19 in a close affair to force the match to a decision. Third match was right at 11-11 and the essay could have landed both ways but the South Korean was unable to hold back his nerve as Sindhu managed the final game 21-14 in the end.
