Man dies after fatal accident on Monaro Highway at Kelly Road near Williamsdale | Canberra Times

news, latest news,

A man is dead and a woman is in hospital after a crash on Monaro Highway just south of the ACT border Friday afternoon. The accident happened north of Kelly Road, which is about 30 kilometers south of Tuggeranong. Traffic was blocked on the highway shortly after 2pm on Friday and motorists were advised to avoid the area. NSW police said the accident involved a truck and a car. “A male driver of the car died on the spot and a female passenger sustained minor injuries and was taken to a Canberra hospital in a stable condition,” they said in a statement. “The driver of the truck was driven to the hospital for mandatory testing.” Heavy vehicles are unable to get through on the Monaro Highway, while light vehicles are diverted southbound onto Old Cooma Road. All northbound traffic is reversed at Michelago. “Motorists must expect major delays and avoid the area,” NSW police said. There was also a minor collision on Monaro Highway in ACT, between Shepard and Tralee Streets in Hume on Friday. No injuries were reported in the ACT collision, territory police said. The Monaro Highway, the artery that connects the Snowy Mountains with the Federal Highway and is used by thousands of Tuggeranong residents every day, has been rated as Canberra’s worst black spot in three of the last four years.
