Heads up Burnaby: Prepare for roadblocks at Barnet Highway

Motorists, pedestrians and cyclists are warned about lane blockages on Barnet Highway.

The town of Burnaby says that with immediate effect, a lane in each direction will be closed at intervals on the 7A stretch just east of Bayview Drive.

A statement says the closure is a result of a request from Trans Mountain, which has submitted an application to reduce road congestion and allow for improved road conditions monitoring as part of nearby tunnel drilling work.

Residents should expect long delays and be encouraged to use alternative routes during rush hour.

For two-wheeled commuters, the Barnet Highway bike lanes are set to remain open at all times.

The immediate closures are as follows:

Eastbound lanes

  • One lane open at all times
  • One lane closed occasionally between 9.00 and 15.00 to access monitoring equipment

Westbound lanes

  • One lane open at all times
  • One lane will be blocked from kl. 9.00 to kl. 5.00 (20 hours)
  • Both lanes will be open during the morning rush hour
