The Canberra Symphony Orchestra Summer Prom 2021 has been canceled due to the “persistent bad weather”. This is sad news for one of Canberra’s most beloved events, which was to take place in Government House on Saturday 4 December. The CSO said it had been a difficult decision to cancel the event, saying even though the weather cleared next week, conditions were not safe enough to install all the infrastructure, with the risk of vehicles getting stuck and other damage. After several months of COVID-related cancellations, the orchestra looked forward to returning to the stage for the summer ball. “Although the CSO has considered a number of options, neither indoor relocation nor postponement is unfortunately viable due to current COVID-19 restrictions, anticipated intergovernmental travel and this week’s declaration of a La Nina weather pattern for the second year in a row,” a statement from the CSO read. “While this is deeply disappointing for our musicians, staff and audience, we look forward to the fantastic 2022 season ahead of us.” In the meantime, we wish you all a safe, relaxing festive season. “Our journalists are working hard to deliver local, up-to-date community news How to keep accessing our trusted content:
