Candice Warner says Cricket Australia’s decision to allow Tim Paine to continue playing despite his sexting scandal is worrying as the wife of an Australian player.
Ex-Ironwoman has been married to Australian opener David Warner since 2015 and was asked for her opinion on how the Paine scandal has been handled.
“They basically say it’s not okay for an Australian cricket captain to send these messages, but it’s okay for an Australian player,” she told 2GB’s Wide World of Sports Radio.

“As the wife of an Australian cricketer, it’s a little worrying and it makes me worried.”
Despite calls from some parts of the cricket world for Paine to be removed from the sidelines, Cricket Australia has consistently stated that the recently departed skipper will be available for selection.
If Paine is selected for the Ashes opening in Brisbane, he will probably fight a barrage of sledges from England’s Barmy Army, something Warners himself is familiar with.

When asked how the wicketkeeper should handle the treatment, Warner revealed her husband’s approach.
“As for David and myself, I think the Barmy Army, you have to look at it a certain way,” she said.
“I know the way David looks at it is, ‘Well, if they sing about me, they’re worried about me,’ so David uses that as fuel to fire him up and get him started.
“We saw pictures of David in England where he laughed a little with them. Even on Twitter, David will respond to some of the things and they will have a laugh.”

Warner believes the scandal will have no impact on the Australian camp, saying players are “really focused on the first game”.
“I think there are reports that the players are coming around and supporting him, but it’s also about supporting his family through a really difficult situation,” she said.
