Hong Kong approves Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin

HONG KONG: Hong Kong has recognized Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical company Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin on its approved Covid-19 vaccine list.
With this, as many as 96 countries have recognized Covaxin and Covishield. Both of these Covid-19 vaccines have also received a list of emergencies (EUL) from the World Health Organization (WHO).
Canada, the United States, Australia, Spain, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Belgium, Russia and Switzerland are among the 96 nations that have approved both India-made vaccines.
Last week, the WHO granted an approval of Covaxin in emergencies, saying that the Bharat Biotech vaccine was found to have a 78 percent effect against Covid-19 regardless of severity, 14 or more days after the second dose.
“Covaxin has been shown to have 78 percent efficacy against Covid-19 regardless of severity, 14 or more days after the second dose, and is extremely suitable for low- and middle-income countries due to light storage requirements,” the WHO said.
The UN Health Organization’s Emergency Registration Procedure assesses the vaccine during the procedure based on a review of data on quality, safety, efficacy, a risk management plan and suitability in low- and middle-income countries.
