Days of rain come as an ‘incredible’ national weather event hitting Sydney

Sydney awaits days with rain heading into the weekend as a major weather event hits the east.

31 millimeters of rain has fallen today in Hornsby, while the southern part of Sydney has escaped most of the rain.

The state’s regions have been hardest hit, with warnings of severe storms and floods in the Central Western and Northern Tablelands.

Sky News chief meteorologist Tom Saunders told Jim Wilson that the “unusually widespread” weather event is set to peak Thursday night and Friday.

“This is a major rain and storm event that is actually affecting around two thirds of Australia this week, which is incredible.

“Often in our country, only five or ten percent of the country sees any significant rainfall.”
