Alizée Thevenet’s “something borrowed” for her wedding to James Middleton had an extra special significance.

The couple tied the knot earlier this month in France, and for the ceremony, Alizée chose the same wedding dress that her mother-in-law Carole Middleton wore to her big day 41 years earlier.

“While talking about dresses with Carole and sharing ideas during the lockdown for inspiration, I tried on her wedding dress and fell in love with it,” the French financial analyst revealed to Hi! “It suited me perfectly and was exactly what I wanted. It always worried me that wedding dresses are only worn once, so it was great to give such a beautiful dress another life.”

The floor-length dress has a neckline without a shoulder, which the bride showed off when I had her hair half up.

Kate Middleton’s younger brother also shared other details about their wedding day in the French hilltop village of Bormes-les-Mimosas with the magazine, including the special role two of their beloved dogs played.

“The flower girls Ella and Mabel got the job of welcoming each guest when they arrived,” said James, 34.

And after the town hall ceremony, the couple drove to their reception by the beach in a vintage 2CV.

“We could not be happier,” he shared. “It was great to finally celebrate it with family and friends despite the challenges of a global pandemic, but we were relaxed and knew the day would finally come.”

François Arizzi, Mayor of Bormes-les-Mimosas, who represented the civil union inside the local town hall, told local publication Var Matin that even though Kate, Prince William and their three children attended the wedding, they would “not steal the show from the newlyweds.”

“I was able to interact with [William and Kate] in very poor English, “said the mayor.” We talked about the charm of Bormes-les-Mimosas and its climate, banalities …. It was a simple moment and I was no more impressive than that! “

“Prince William had no formal attire, but was wearing a beige and off-white suit,” added Arrizi, who said Kate wore “a long dress in a very light green color.”
