A wild night! The MTV Video Music Awards in 2021 was a non-stop party from start to finish – and gave fans a lot of memorable moments to talk about.

Doja Kat hosted the star-studded event on Sunday, September 12 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. However, Madonna was at the helm to begin the night. The 63-year-old pop queen gave fans a look back at her 40-year career while honoring MTV, which is celebrating its 40th year.

“And they said we would not last, but we are here still morph -kers. Happy 40th MTV, ”the“ Vogue ”singer said as she greeted the audience. Another music legend Cyndi Lauper also honored the network, after remembering its first Moon Person victory at the initial VMAs in 1984.

Justin Bieber and Kid Laroi kicked the show off, musically, but that was it Olivia rodrigo‘s first VMA appearance that made fans scream with excitement.

The 18-year-old singer, who took home a lunar man trophy for this year’s PUSH show ahead of the festivities, rocked out to her hit “Good 4 U.” Her night got even bigger after she won this year’s song for “driver’s license”.

“Hey, my God,” Rodrigo said during his acceptance speech. “This is so crazy. I want to thank all of you fans. This is so incredible. This has been the most magical year of my life. I want to dedicate this award to all the other girls who write songs on their bedroom floor. ”

That Bizarre pig alum, who also won Best New Artist, added: “There are many people who will try to dim your light, but speaking your mind and listening to your heart are the most powerful things in the world.”

Kacey Musgraves also got her VMA debut with “Starcrossed”, which is the new single from her fifth album of the same name. That Foo Fighters, which picked up the first ever Global Icon Award, made a big boost as they announced fans a medley of their biggest hits in the middle of the awards show.
